ITALY M33 front

Definately a WW2 or earlier M33, but I am not sure what the hole in the front is for.

(Well, I know now what the hole indicates - Italian collector Bruno Murgia tells me that it indicates a sub-standard helmet issued to non-combatant units.)

Note that there is no sign of there ever having been an insignia stencilled on the front.

ITALY M33 postwar front

Definately a postwar example. Note no hole in front. Obviously tested and found good!

See an excellent article on identifying pre- or post-WW2 Italian M33 helmets at Michele Tagliavini's helmet website.

The canvas chinstrap is a certain clue that this is a postwar production model.
